MadHatter was raised in a small town in Kansas, a couple hours from where his ancestors (the Dalton Gang) met their end robbing banks in the Old West.
Growing up around computers and other electronic playthings, he quickly grew to adore them. Even as early as four years old, he was punching in code to make primitive Squot graphics with his family’s TRS-80 computer and getting high scores on the Atari. A few years later, he became a pioneer of old school gaming, finding himself completely immersed in the 8 bit Nintendo and Amiga 1000. The constant use of these machines was surely a factor in what drove him to become what he is today:
A great, big nerd.
Hatter is a dedicated “Jack of all trades” – he produces music, records and mixes tracks, spits percussive flows, contributes artwork and design both digital and traditional, builds and keeps up several related websites, creates games, handles promotions and public relations including booking, runs audio / visual equipment, operates printing equipment and finishing services, and lots of other tasks that most labels or collectives have to outsource. It’s a ton of work, but keeping Scrub Club going and ahead of the curve is akin to taking care of an actual family.
He has gained awards and achievements for his music, performed over 60 shows, and has helped his fellow artists out with passionate support. He’s a well-known advisor and friend to several independent scenes, the largest being the Nerdcore community.
Aside from all the business, artwork, and music-related activities, he is also a video and tabletop gaming addict and a decorated aficionado of comic books, cheeseburgers, and pinball machines.
